Functional Medicine

Alternative medicine encompasses a variety of treatments and therapies that fall outside of conventional Western medicine. These treatments focus on holistic healing and are often used to complement traditional medical care.

What Is Functional Medicine?

Functional Medicine is a patient‑centered, science‑based approach to health care. Instead of offering one‑size‑fits‑all treatments, our functional medicine providers work with you to uncover the underlying imbalances driving chronic health issues. By exploring how genetics, lifestyle, environment, and nutrition interact in your body, we create a customized roadmap for true healing — not just symptom relief.

How I trained in this

I am a physician, board certified in family medicine, and I have practised for more than twenty-seven years. Functional medicine is a separate body of training, and I went and did it.

I completed the certification programme at the Functional Medicine Coaching Academy, in collaboration with The Institute for Functional Medicine, and hold the credential Functional Medicine Certified Health Coach (FMCHC). The training covers the science of how the body’s systems interact, and — the part that changes an appointment most — how to help someone actually make a change and keep it, rather than handing them a plan they cannot live with.

The two qualifications do different jobs, and I keep them distinct. My medical degree and my board certification in family medicine are what let me diagnose and treat you as your physician. The FMCHC is a health coaching certification, and it is what shapes how we work together on the daily things — food, sleep, movement, stress — that decide whether any treatment plan holds.

What is Functional Medicine?
